Blueprint for Guiding Principles for the Consolidation
Process of the
Library Foundation of
Vision
To be the one united, strong support entity for the
Hennepin County Library system by combining and leveraging the strengths and
talents of the Library Foundation of Hennepin County and The Friends of the
Minneapolis Public Library.
Service
to Libraries
Contribute to the success of Hennepin County
Library's mission and vision by fostering and enriching programs and services
that are not possible without funding that supplements tax dollars. Strengthen the potential of the continued
success of libraries throughout
Governance
The name of the unified group will be inclusive and
representative of the Vision.
A Board of Directors will be comprised of members
representing the Library Foundation of Hennepin County and The Friends of the
Minneapolis Public Library and new members.
Membership structure should be determined by the new
Board by December 31, 2008 and accomplish the Vision
and Service principles outlined above.
Individual Friends of the Library groups will
continue with further exploration of a Friends alliance that may also provide
representation and alignment with the larger unified support group.
Financial
support to
be determined by the consolidated Board by December
31, 2008.
Assets
and liabilities to be determined by the consolidated Board by December
31, 2008.
Employees
to be
determined by the consolidated Board by December
31, 2008.
Implementation
The effective date of the consolidation of the
Library Foundation of Hennepin County and The Friends of the Minneapolis Public
Library will be on or before

Jill Joseph made a motion for the Library Board to
endorse the use of the Blueprint of Guiding Principles by the Library
Foundation of Hennepin County and the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library
which was seconded by Cynthia Steinke and the motion passed.
