You may return items to any Hennepin County Library, no matter where you checked them out. However, for time and cost saving measures, we encourage you to return them to the library where you checked them out.
Book Drops
After hours book drops are available at all libraries for your convenience. If you drop an item off after library hours, it will be considered “returned” the last day that library location was open even though the items will not actually be checked in until the library reopens.
Other Library Systems
Items borrowed from Hennepin County Library may also be returned to any public library in Minnesota.
Staff at the library system where the item is returned will note the date of return and route the item(s) back to Hennepin County Library. This can take up to two weeks. During this time your account will show that the items are still checked out to you.
As long as the item was returned on or before the due date, you will not be assessed a charge when the item is checked in, even if it became "overdue--still out" while in transit.
Do not renew items you have already returned to another library system if they show up "overdue--still out" because that will immediately assess a charge to your account. Your account will clear when they arrive “home” to Hennepin County Library.
