Funding Spotlights

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Libras Y Mas (Books and More).....In 2003 funding supported programs to attract Latino families into community libraries. Programs are being developed around El Día de los Niños (April 30), Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), and Día de Los Muertos (November 2). Bi-lingual storytimes are also featured.

By the People.....By the People was designed to remind citizens why international affairs matter to each of them and their families. In a "town meeting" setting people from throughout the metropolitan area discuss global topics, the impact they have on Minnesota residents, and policy alternatives. Forums are presented in collaboration with MacNeil/Lehrer Productions and six other partner organizations.

ESL on the Road to the Library.....English language learners attending these classes are introduced to resources available at the public library. They learn how to be successful library users. Funding provides transportation to the library and orientation to library resources to adult learners.
