Join a group of people who love libraries and share your passion for books and learning.
What do the Friends do?
Friends of the Library groups support a local library through volunteering in the library, raising funds for the local library and speaking up in the community on behalf of library programs, services and value to the community. Local Friends are library ambassadors in their own community.
What is the difference between the Friends groups and the Library Foundation of Hennepin County?
The Library Foundation, united with the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library, assists the Library with building improvements, collections, programming, public awareness, and funding to help raise dollars for system wide initiatives or designated local projects.
While the Library Foundation supports HCL on a system-wide basis, Friends provide local, grassroots support.

New Friends groups will be starting at Minneapolis library locations!
HCL is moving forward to start new Friends of the Library local groups at East Lake, Linden Hills, Sumner and Washburn Libraries in Minneapolis. If you are interested in more information about becoming a Friend or if you have questions, call Margie Schuster at 952-847-8545.
