Language Immersion Camps for the Whole Family
Concordia Language  Villages is offering day camps for kids in the Twin Cities. Overnight camps are also available for youth, adults, and families! There are still openings, but register soon!

Reading a newspaper in a language is a great way to immerse yourself in the language and culture of a country. With the database NewspaperDirect Press Display you can read international newspapers from across the world. Learning Spanish? Try reading a newspaper from Latin America or Spain. Traveling to Brazil? Read a newspaper from Sao Paulo.

"Bailout" is the word!
Since 2003, Merriam-Webster online has picked a Word of the Year. This year, with the economy on most people's minds, the winner was bailout, which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a rescue from financial distress".

Rosetta Stone Replacement Available!
Tell Me More, the library's new language learning tool, is now available to customers from home and in the library. Users now have access to interactive instruction in 7 different languages, including English, Spanish and French. Coverage areas include everyday language topics and business conversation skills. Registration is required and users need to use the Internet Explorer browser. See the Quick Start guide for more information.

Myspace meets Rosetta Stone?
With Livemocha, users get a social networking site where they use audio-visual tools to learn a new language and make "friends", who tutor members learning their native language. Languages include English, Spanish, French, German and even Icelandic! Registration required.

Irasshai or welcome to Japanese
Interested in learning Japanese? Check out the Japanese language program provided by Georgia Public Broadcasting, Irasshai  (which means "welcome" in Japanese). The site has over 100 video lessons, many of which are quite funny and great cultural information.

Rendez-vous with Destinos!
Annenberg Media offers free streaming video of popular language courses like the Destinos telenovela for learning Spanish. English, French, and German are also available. These video courses are great for learning language in context.

Try Mango Languages, FSI Language Courses, or BBC Languages to practice your favorite foreign language.  We also have wonderful print and audio courses available for check out, or you can try the audio eBook versions of the Pimsleur language learning series via our NetLibrary subscription.
