The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, which once included Walt Whitman as editor, has been digitized by the Brooklyn Public Library. So far, the run of the paper from 1841 to 1902 is available online, and is keyword searchable. Try the keyword "sewing-women" to find Whitman's 1846 editorial on women's wages, or the keyword "Superbas" to read about the baseball team later known as the Dodgers.

Google Book Search is adding magazine content. Full text articles can be found online in their original print layout. In order to limit a search to full text magazine articles, select
Advanced Book Search and limit the search to "
Full view only" and "
Magazines". Currently, the selection of magazine titles is small, but the chronological range is impressive. (For example, one can find issues of Popular Science from 1872 to 2008.) The
Google blog says that more titles will be added. Unfortunately, there is no print command for articles found through this search.

Minnesota Historical Society's Ask Ron database lets users search for newspapers in their micofilm collection. The collection contains virtually every newspaper published in the state and territory of Minnesota since 1849. The newspaper microfilm is located in the
Minnesota History Center and is open to the public. Check the website for hours and location.
