History
The Ladies' Shakespeare Club was organized in 1891 and federated in 1895. Study programs consisted of Shakespeare plays and later other topics were included. Each year consisted of the study of one or two Shakespeare plays, then acting out each work. Later on, other topics like Central and South America were included in their study topics. The membership included women mostly from Minneapolis.
Description of the Collection
The collection consists of programs from 1908 to 1935 with some missing years. The yearly program is titled by the play(s) or other study topics which will be focused on for the year. Some plays included Julius Caesar (1908-1909), or Antony and Cleopatra (1932-1933). Some other study topics included history of England and so on. Each program outlines the agenda for each meeting and its presenters, officers for the year, constitution, and membership.
