History
The Minneapolis Board of Education takes on the responsibility for selecting the superintendent and overseeing the district's budget, curriculum, personnel and facilities. They create policy pertaining to these specific issues with authority granted by the State of Minnesota and its legislature.
Description of the Collection
The collection consists of booklets that are outlines or syllabuses for the Minneapolis Public School. The specific booklets cover: Community Life Problems 9th Grade, 1925-1926; English grades 9,10, 11,12; English Composition Elementary Grades 1934; Grammar, 1923-1924; Mathematics Supplemental Material Grade 9, 1925-1926; Course in Nature Study elementary grades 1909; Music, 1924-1925; and Retail Training, 1941. These books "are intended as directive and suggestive. It is not intended to hamper or limit teachers." The larger booklets are basically textbooks and include bibliographies. The booklets were prepared by the Social Studies Research Materials Project which received WPA support. It is noted in the books all materials were available through the Minneapolis Public Library. The titles include Minnesota and the National Defense; South America and Good Neighbor Policy; Bibliography of Music Records; Modern Alterations in Our Government, Trends in Health and Medicine, and To Fetch a Pail of Water.
