The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom many challenges to remove books from shelves. A challenge is defined as a formal, written complaint, filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness. For every challenge that is reported, 4 or 5 remain unreported. Why do you think these books were challenged?
