The first James Bond novel, this was also the foundation for the recent movie. It is both a spy novel and a history lesson--the entire plot is saturated with the fears and political realities of the cold war. Unlike in the movie, Bond faces off against communists and Soviet agents, not terrorists. Still a thrilling tale. Surprisingly the plot is quite close to that of the movie.

Funny, in a farcical and slapstick fashion altogether different from Shakespeare. A man attempts to save himself from heartbreak by selecting his chosen bride as a young child and raising her in seclusion, only to find his best plans foiled.

Somewhat confusing. A girl who dresses like a boy to avoid the attention of unwanted suitors ends up falling in love with the Duke she serves. Trouble is, the Duke is in love with another fair maid, who falls for the first boy--or rather girl. This play provided the foundation for the movie She's the Man, incidentally.

An amazing translation of this Middle English poem, which manages to capture many unique literary techniques, not only rhyme, but also inherent rhythm and a generous use of alliteration. I loved it.
