On Monday, January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), Hennepin County libraries are closed.
From March 1-31, kids in grades 3-8 can vote for their favorite nominated titles at any Hennepin County library. Kids must read or listen to at least three nominated titles to be eligible to vote.
The Maud Hard Lovelace Book Award has nominees in two divisions, Division I nominees for grades 3-5 and Division II nominees for grades 6-8. Last year's winner was "El Deafo" by Cece Bell in both divisions. More past winners can be found in our book lists.
Nominees are chosen by a selection committee. Here are some of the selection criteria: the book must be available in paperback by February 1; the author must live in North America; the copyright date of the book must be within the last five years and the book must be a work of fiction.
This year's winners and next year's nominees will be announced on Maud Hart Lovelace's birthday, April 25.
Kids in preK-grade 8 can vote for their favorite nominated title for the Star of the North Picture Book Award! Kids must read (or have read to them) at least 8 of the 10 nominated titles to be eligible to vote. Kids can vote from March 1-31.
