On Monday, January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), Hennepin County libraries are closed.
This summer, Maple Plain, St. Bonifacius and Westonka libraries are launching Trails to Libraries, a campaign encouraging outdoor exploration of the Lake Minnetonka communities and the Dakota Rail Regional Trail.
Hennepin County has 226 miles of off-street bikeways and 425 miles of on-street bikeways, connecting 45 cities and 1.2 million residents. Three Rivers Park District provides regional trails throughout the county, including the Dakota Rail Regional Trail, which follows the route of the former Dakota Rail Corridor and offers spectacular lake views through St. Bonifacius, Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Minnetonka Beach, Orono and Wayzata.
Plan your trip to the library with the interactive map at www.hennepin.us/ride. Libraries also have print copies of Three Rivers trail maps and Hennepin County bike maps.
Use the hashtag #trailstolibraries on social media and share photos from along the trail and at Maple Plain, St. Bonifacius and Westonka libraries.
Each library is hosting a variety of nature and outdoors-themed programs for all ages.
Bike safety rallies will be held at all the host libraries - Stay safe while riding your bike! Learn about bike maintenance and biking rules for sidewalks and trails, wash your bike and get a helmet check-up. Participate in a story stroll, and meet Orono police and the new Community Service dog. Part of the Trails to Libraries event series. Collaborators: Orono Police Department, Dakota Rail Regional Trail - Three Rivers Park District and Hennepin County Public Works.
