Learn more about Asian culture at your library this spring. Celebrate Lunar New Year with Cambodian, Taiwanese, Thai, or Tibetan traditions, learn about Tibetan astronomy, meet local authors and more.

Events in March

Tibetan Lunar New Year - Phuntsok D. Tsawog and friends will perform traditional Tibetan music and cultural dance. Feel free to attend in traditional clothing. At Walker Library, Saturday, March 3, 3-4 p.m.

Hung Kings and Trung Sisters Commemoration - Commemorate the founders of Vietnam, the Hung Kings and the Trung sisters, with a parade, ritual ceremonies, unicorn dancing and other cultural performances. At Minneapolis Central Library, Saturday, March 10, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Author Talk: Mykou Thao - Through the use of flashcards and reading from her book, Thao, Hmong author of "Ua Si, Ua Si!" will share early literacy tips with caregivers teaching the Hmong language to their children. The program will be in Hmonglish. Limited copies of her book will be given away to participants. At Brookdale Library, Saturday, March 17, 3-4 p.m.

Events in April

Thai New Year - Join in a drum parade, learn about Thai history and culture, enjoy Thai boxing demonstrations, and experience the music, dances and vibrant traditional costumes of four regions of Thailand. Feel free to attend in traditional clothing. At Eden Prairie Library, Saturday, April 7, 1-2 p.m.

Author Talk: 신 선 영 Sun Yung Shin - Join us as 신 선 영 Sun Yung Shin, winner of the 2016 Minnesota Book Award for poetry, discusses her Korean heritage, immigration story and Asian American experience, and how they informed her work as a poet. At Brooklyn Park Library, Saturday, April 17, 2-3 p.m.

Japanese Taiko Drumming - Experience driving rhythms and movements inspired by martial arts. Taiko ("big drum" in Japanese) is a joyful and expressive way to experience Japanese American culture, move your body, and have a great time! You will also get a chance to play the drums. At Wayzata City Hall Community Room, Saturday, April 21, 1-1:45 p.m.

Tibetan Astrology - Tibetan astrologist Tenzing Sherap will discuss traditional Tibetan astrology and its relevance in the 21st century at Northeast Library, Saturday, April 21, 3-4 p.m.

Cambodian Lunar New Year - Celebrate Cambodian Lunar New Year by enjoying traditional stories, songs and cultural dance performances! Learn about Cambodian celebrations and culture, and make crafts to take home. Materials provided. Feel free to attend in traditional clothing. At Oxboro Library, Saturday, April 28, 2-3 p.m.

3D Pop-Up Cards - Learn how to make your very own 3D pop-up card with step-by-step instructions from Trang Nguyen, the artist from Dragonflies and Cards.

Taiwanese Lunar New Year - Kick off the Year of the Dog with a celebration of Taiwanese dance forms and other family-friendly activities. Time for Q&A. Feel free to attend in traditional clothing. At Plymouth Library, Sunday, May 20, 1-3 p.m.

Henna Workshop - Learn the basics of henna in a hands-on workshop led by artist Amy Leinen. Discover the history and science of henna through paste-making and cone-rolling demonstrations. At North Regional Library, Sunday, May 20, 1-3 p.m.
