On Monday, January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), Hennepin County libraries are closed.
At the January 24 community meeting at Eden Prairie Library, project architects presented information about the design for the renovated library.
To continue informing that work, attendees participated in a facilitated discussion around building features and library services.
The renovated library will offer increased space and support for hands-on learning. Participants noted community interest in arts and crafts, STEM learning, and practical applications like bike repair and simple home maintenance.
With plans for designated collaborative spaces and areas for quiet study, attendees discussed the value of library meeting rooms for use by community groups, the need for plentiful power outlets, and flexible spaces with a variety of furniture.
The renovation will also address some of the outdoor spaces. Community members talked about various needs and options for outdoor seating, bike racks, and the desire for more trees and other plantings. Improvements to the parking lot and steps are planned, and additional exterior improvements will be made as possible.
Following this meeting, the schematic design will be further revised before being presented to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners for approval, currently scheduled for April.
