North Regional Library initial design approved

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved an initial design for renovations of North Regional Library. The board also approved a contract to continue design work and authorized staff to proceed with selecting a general contractor for construction through the county’s set-aside program, which will award the contract to a small, minority- or women-owned contractor.

Library improvements will include an increased number of meeting and study rooms, additional public computers, new finishes throughout the building and an updated early literacy play space for children. Plans have been shaped by community feedback collected by Juxtaposition Arts over the last year, with the design reflecting community need for a quieter adult area and spaces that support collaboration, with improved acoustics throughout the building. Renovations will cost an estimated $9 million.

The library will close for approximately 11 months during the renovation. Currently, the library is scheduled to close this fall and reopen in fall 2020.
