Architect selection process for new Southdale Library underway

The selection process for the new Southdale Library project architect is underway. Architectural and engineering firms were invited to submit proposals in response to the Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the Hennepin County Designer Selection Committee (DSC) in August. The RFP includes the new Southdale Library as well as two additional library projects, all currently planned to be completed in 2020.

It is anticipated that the Southdale Library project architect will be named by the end of 2017, and the predesign phase, including site studies and planning for continued community engagement, will begin in December 2017 or January 2018.

Community engagement

The City of Edina, under contract with Hennepin County, held open houses to shape site development concepts earlier in 2017. The full 8-acre site has room for additional development along with the standalone library. For complete results from the open houses, see the City of Edina website.

In 2018, the library will plan community meetings for the public to share their ideas specific to the new Southdale Library and learn more about the project. Those meetings will be announced at the current Southdale Library and on the library website.
