About the art
Wing Young Huie specializes in photographic inquiries—what makes a community? What does everyday life look like in the diverse corners of a city? “Lake Street USA” was one of his first large-scale photo projects to explore those conversations. He spent four years documenting the faces, cultures and socioeconomic realities along Lake Street, ultimately exhibiting 675 photos as part of a six-mile-long installation in store windows, bus stops and buildings. Seven of those black-and-white photos appear here. The images are sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and often surprisingly beautiful.
