There are two ways for Hennepin County residents and property owners to obtain a library card. Both options provide cardholders with full borrowing privileges, including access to online resources, eBooks, audiobooks, physical materials, and more.
Get a library card by visiting any Hennepin County library.
Apply online and receive a digital version of a library card immediately.
Note: We do not mail out library cards. If you apply online, you will receive your account information via email.
Most Minnesota residents can register their local library card with Hennepin County Library.
To register your local library card, Ask Us or go to a Hennepin County library.
Exceptions: If your local library is not part of a regional public library system, you are not able to register your card with us. Ineligible libraries include Clarkfield, Crosby, East Grand Forks, Hendricks and Taylors Falls.
Individuals who are not Minnesota residents or Minnesota residents whose public library system is ineligible (Clarkfield, Crosby, East Grand Forks, Hendricks and Taylors Falls) may obtain a Hennepin County Library card for an annual fee ($60).
Fee-based cards allow patrons to borrow physical materials but do not allow the checkout of downloadable content or remote access to subscription online resources.
Fee-based cards expire 12 months after the issue date.
Applications must be completed in person at a Hennepin County library.
