About the art
Fine-art press Vermillion Editions Limited launched in Minneapolis in 1977 and ran till 1992, publishing works by the likes of Robert Mapplethorpe and William Wegman. In that tenure, it also produced the Portfolio 15 series, commissioned by Northwestern National Bank and displayed as an exhibition of Minnesota artists in 1978. One of those artists was Mary Griep, who created this abstract print as number 13 of the series. Her dark composition includes bands of color running across the top and bottom, their trajectories marked with intriguing tire-track textures.
