About the art

These simple drawings by children’s author/illustrator Tomie dePaola came out of a special moment: his in-person visit to the Maple Grove Library in 1990. The beloved artist hosted three programs for kids and adults at the library, where he told (and drew) the tale of “Strega Nona.” Afterward, he donated these two pieces to the library to be enjoyed for years to come. If you look closely at “Strega Nona,” you’ll see his sweet inscription: “Love and 3 kisses to all my friends at Maple Grove Library.”
