Charlie Read (Time Out Boy)

About the art

Meet Charlie Read, who first came to the Plymouth Library in 1999. The bronze sculpture by Utah artist Gary Lee Price was originally called “Time Out Boy,” but Plymouth Library’s community of children helped rechristen him, with a naming contest sponsored by the Friends of the Plymouth Library. The sweet bronze sculpture shows a young mind completely enraptured in the world of books and learning.

Artist statement

“We all need ‘time-outs,’ and this piece represents that time in all our lives when we need to sit down, open a book and forget about our present worries and concerns. It is amazing how problems can be solved when we divert our minds to something else and take a little vacation.”
