About the art
This glass art framing the library’s entrance heralds what you’ll find inside: reading, discovery and wonder. Those three words appear in the nine-panel piece of art, blossoming from the green and blue vine motif that reflects growth and freedom of thought. Dieterich Spahn, a German-born Wayzata resident, looked to his home country in creating the piece, sending a digital file of his watercolor drawing to Franz Mayer Studio in Munich. The studio transferred his design onto tempered glass and fired it at 1275 degrees to bond the color to the glass. The panels were then shipped to Baltimore and trucked to Wayzata, traveling far to welcome visitors to the library.
