The Camden Community – Neighborhoods that Built a City

About the art

Known for his work with recycled materials, artist Michael Sweere acquired tin from thrift stores, garage sales, and donations from library patrons for this installation behind the library service desk. The tin was then cut into shapes, layered on plywood, and fastened with nails to create three sections of imagery reflecting the Camden neighborhood. With elements of the past and present, the collage honors the people, plants and animals that have inhabited the area, the industries and resources that bring people to the area, and the community that lives here today.
