Current service information

Hennepin County Library continues to adapt its services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on the safety of our staff and patrons.

You can access library services in-person and online.

All visitors to Hennepin County buildings are required to wear face coverings that cover both mouth and nose.

Face coverings can include a paper or disposable face mask, a cloth face mask, a scarf, a bandanna, a neck gaiter, or a religious face covering. A face shield alone is not sufficient. Visitors who wear a face shield are required to wear a face covering underneath it.

Grab and Go services

Libraries are accommodating patrons for short visits. Learn more about in-person Grab and Go services.

Online services

You can connect to library resources from home, with many resources offering new or expanded remote access. Learn more about online services.

Libraries reopening in March

Six currently closed libraries are scheduled to reopen for Grab and Go service in March. Two libraries will be temporarily limited to returns only.

Osseo and St. Bonifacius libraries will begin accepting returns on March 22. Due to their small size and the need to provide adequate physical distancing, indoor capacity limits will accommodate staff only. Holds pickup for items in the Osseo and St. Bonifacius collections will be available at nearby libraries.

Returning materials

  • Returns are accepted at all open locations during regularly scheduled operating hours.
  • You are not required to return materials at this time. Due dates for physical materials continue to be automatically extended (except interlibrary loan due dates, which are no longer extended).
  • We are experiencing a significant backlog in processing of returned items. Depending on location, returned items may not be fully checked in for several days to several weeks. This delay will not result in fines, as all due dates continue to be automatically extended.
  • Closed libraries are unable to accept returns. Visit our locations page for a list of current service locations.
