The Hennepin County Library Board met on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Minneapolis Central Library, Doty Meeting Room.

Attendees

Present: Adja Kaba, Keegan Xavi, Amal Karim, Lynn Stetler, Erin Vrieze Daniels, Gordy Aune, Jr., Briana Eicheldinger, Jane Brissett, and Mike Hogan.

Hennepin County Staff: Dan Rogan, J.R. Genett, Amy McNally, Josh Yetman, Patti Hetrick, and Jeannette Lewis

Call to Order

President Adja Kaba called the Hennepin County Library Board meeting of January 25, 2023, to order at 5:30 p.m. and welcomed all in attendance.

Attendance of Library Board Members

Library Board Clerk Jeannette Lewis took role call and the board met quorum with 9 members present.

Approval of Agenda

Motion: Gordy Aune, Jr.
Seconded: Erin Vrieze Daniels
Motion passed.

Approval of Consent Items

Approval of the meeting minutes of November 16, 2022, and Acceptance of Donations.

Public Comment

No Public comment was made.

President’s Report

President Adja Kaba highlighted several Hennepin County Library events that were included in the board packet.

President Kaba discussed the HCL Bylaws and expectations of current board members until new members are appointed.

Interim Director’s Report

Interim Library Director Dan Rogan discussed Library, Community, and County updates. Rogan asked board members to consider a vote in signing the Urban Libraries Council’s Declaration of Democracy.

Library Staff Dialogue

Josh Yetman Communications Manager shared information on the Library Ad Campaign and received some feedback from board members.

Committee Reports

The next Executive Committee meeting is March 8, 2023, at Brooklyn Park Library, Mississippi meeting room.

The Friends of Hennepin County Library (FHCL) ex officio Jane Brissett gave an update on the FHCL events happening.

The Budget and Long-term Planning Committee had no updates.

The Policy Committee chair Jane Brissett shared with the board that several HCL policies are up for review in 2023. The library policies include the Patron Conduct policy, Freedom to Read policy and the Freedom to View policy.

New Business

Board member Amal Karim shared information about the Here is Minneapolis Storytelling project that she is a member of and will share more details with the director after the meeting.

There being no further business, Lynn Stetler made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:53p.m.; seconded by Erin Vrieze Daniels. Motion passed. The next meeting of the Hennepin County Library Board will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Ridgedale Library, Robert H. Rohlf Meeting Room.
