The public is welcome at all library board meetings

The Hennepin County Library Board met on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Ridgedale Library, Robert H. Rohlf Meeting Room.

Attendees

Present: Adja Kaba, Lynn Stetler, Gordy Aune, Jr., Jessica Kraft, Ashley Krohn, Randy Klauk, and Mike Hogan.

Hennepin County Staff: Dan Rogan, J.R. Genett, Amy McNally, Ali Turner, Ayanna Muata, Samantha Jekot-Graham, and Jeannette Lewis

Call to Order

President Adja Kaba called the Hennepin County Library Board meeting of March 22, 2023, to order at 5:30 p.m. and welcomed all in attendance.

Attendance of Library Board Members

Library Board Clerk Jeannette Lewis took the role call. The board met the quorum with seven members present.

Approval of Agenda

Second: Gordy Aune, Jr.

Public Comment

No Public comment was made.

Welcome of New Board Members

President Adja Kaba welcomed the new the newly appointed board members.

County Commissioner

Commissioner LaTondresse introduced himself, welcomed new board members, and provided a county update.

Presidents Report

President Adja Kaba provided announcements on the Hennepin County Library events happening, the 2023 library conferences calendar, and a new Slate of Officers to appoint at the Annual board meeting.

The board president appointed Gordy Aune, Jr., and Briana Eicheldinger to the Nominating committee replacing past committee members Erin Vrieze Daniels and Tim Dolan.

2023 Meeting Schedule Update

The board reviewed the meeting schedule and voted to have the Executive Committee meetings virtually.

Interim Director’s Report

Interim Library Director Dan Rogan discussed Library, Community, and County updates.

Library Staff Dialogue

Martha Hardy, a librarian at Minneapolis Central Library, shared information on the video conference room project pilot and received feedback from board members.

Committee Reports

The next Executive Committee meeting is a virtual meeting on April 19, 2023.

The Friends of Hennepin County Library (FHCL) ex officio Jane Brissett was not at the meeting and provided no update.

The Budget and Long-Term Planning Committee shared that they intend to schedule committee meetings later in the year.

The Nominating Committee will schedule a committee meeting to discuss a Slate of Officers and changes in the committee’s leadership.

The Policy Committee meeting is on April 5, 2023. The Policy committee will review the Bylaws to present to the board for review.

New Business

Board members shared questions and comments about Hennepin County libraries.

There being no further business, Lynn Stetler made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:30p.m.; seconded by Erin Vrieze Daniels. Motion passed. The next meeting of the Hennepin County Library Board will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Edina Library, Meeting Room.
