Paid and volunteer tutors needed for Let’s Read and Homework Help

Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking several lead tutors and volunteer tutors who are passionate about serving youth and families.

Let’s Read

Let’s Read is a literacy tutoring program that focuses on supporting youth in grades K-5 in improving their reading skills. Students work 1-on-1 with a volunteer tutor once a week to build their skills, gain confidence and fluency. Let’s Read Lead Tutors manage the delivery of afterschool reading support for K-5 students, implementing a provided curriculum.

Volunteer tutors for Let’s Read will work 1-on-1 with K-5 students using an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all the materials to teach an effective lesson. No teaching experience is required. Training is provided.

Homework Help

Homework Help is a drop-in tutoring program for K-12 students to work with adult staff and volunteers on their homework assignments in a free, safe, and welcoming space after school. The focus of this program is to provide students with one-on-one and small group support in understanding and completing the learning tasks they have been assigned by their teachers at school. 

Homework Help Lead Tutors manage the delivery of the K-12 Homework Help afterschool drop-in tutoring program.

Many students who come to Hennepin County Library afterschool academic support programs are recent immigrants and may be likely to encounter cultural or language barriers as they build their academic skills.
