Become a volunteer tutor in 2025
Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking several volunteer tutors who are passionate about serving youth and families. The Library is expanding capacity to support its successful Let’s Read and Homework Help programs.
This recruitment cycle is focused on serving students at Brookdale, Brooklyn Park, and North Regional libraries.
Let’s Read
Let’s Read is a literacy tutoring program that focuses on supporting youth in grades K-5 to read at grade level. Volunteer tutors for Let’s Read use an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all the materials to teach an effective lesson. No teaching experience is required. Training is provided.

Homework Help
Homework Help is a drop-in tutoring program for K-12 students to work with adult staff and volunteers on their homework assignments in a free, safe, and welcoming space after school. The focus of this program is to provide students with one-on-one and small group support in understanding and completing the learning tasks they have been assigned by their teachers at school.
No teaching experience is required. Training is provided. Advanced math skills are a strong asset.

Many students who come to Hennepin County Library academic support programs are recent immigrants and may be encountering cultural or language barriers as they build their academic skills.
