Celebrate the Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year celebrations, based on the Chinese lunisolar calendar, occur on the same date across East Asia. Although occurring on the same new moon day, celebrations are unique to their own cultures, each with its interpretations, zodiacs, and traditions.

Tết/Vietnamese New Year

2-3 p.m., Southdale Library
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon by learning the history, meaning, and process of various rituals during the new year celebration. Listen to traditional Vietnamese songs, watch traditional dances, lion dance, Kung-Fu demonstration, make Banh Chung (sticky rice cake), decorate a red envelope, play Bau, cua, ca, cop (traditional dice game). Vietnamese folktale storytelling, a t'rưng (traditional Vietnamese instrument) performance and demo, along with a New Year’s Eve and Tết ceremony. All ages are welcome.
Taiwanese Lunar New Year Celebration

The Minnesota Taiwanese Foundation will bring Taiwanese New Year fun to the library! In this program, we will introduce Taiwanese New Year traditions through storytelling, playing games, making your own lantern, and other fun hands-on new year activities. Materials provided. All ages are welcome.
