Work on Sumner Library renovation project moving along
After record rainfall earlier this summer, exterior work at Sumner Library is finally underway. Saturated soils in June delayed site work throughout the region and pushing out the start of Sumner’s exterior work.
Great progress has been made since the last project update. Recent work includes:
- Drywall is more than 90% complete and painted.
- New decorative light fixtures are installed throughout the main level.
- Acoustical ceilings are being installed.
- Millwork is installed and awaiting countertops.
- Plumbing fixture installation nearing completion.
- Installation of exterior drain tile, stormwater controls, and underground conduits is in progress.
- Restoration of the windows in the historic portions of the building is complete and new storm windows are installed.
- Carpet installation begins the week of September 2.
Upcoming Work
Progress will be apparent from the street in coming weeks, as a new metal roof is installed to replace the asphalt shingles on the high-pitched roof. Once the roof, underground storm water controls, and site paving are complete, the site will return to green with final landscaping. Inside, lower-level carpet will be installed by the end of August—a final step before completion of that area in early September. Final finishes on the main level will follow soon after the lower level is complete.
Project updates
Construction is projected to finish before the end of the year with an anticipated reopening soon after. Interested in receiving future updates on the project? Subscribe to the Sumner Library updates email list or visit the Sumner Library building project page.
