About the art
This four-part mural celebrates icons of Excelsior life past and present, from the area’s signature paddleboats and fruit growing to Native American heritage and modern lake life. Artist Greg Preslicka created each section separately to capture a different aspect of Excelsior as a gathering place, honing in on recreation, commerce, ways of travel and home life by the lake. Altogether, it creates a vivid depiction of what makes this town—and library—special.
Artist statement
"[The mural] is painted on separate panels that have been mounted together to represent how the past and present have come together to make Excelsior what it is today. … The “Gathering Together” theme also reflects the library’s role as a place for people to gather for meetings or programs and as a place where they gather information."
