About the art

In the summer of 2008, the Folwell Neighborhood Association and Webber Camden Neighborhood Organization brought North Minneapolis residents together for a collaborative creative feat: folding 1,000 origami cranes. In Japanese culture, the crane symbolizes good luck, health and longevity, and legend has it that folding 1,000 cranes will grant those qualities—or a wish of your choosing. North Minneapolis residents wished for prosperity, peace and harmony, and the resulting rainbow mobile now bestows good luck on visitors to the library.
