About the art

The Bloomington Ferry Bridge spans a mile long across the Minnesota River, connecting Bloomington with Shakopee. It’s a fitting image for artist Rex Mhiripiri, who has spent years bridging the art and culture of his home country with Minnesota. In his Bloomington gallery, Mhiripiri showcases Zimbabwean art, particularly the stone sculptures of the Shona people. His own paintings bridge the two continents, beautifully highlighting African animals and nature as well as Minnesota landscapes—like this autumnal vista of one of the state’s quintessential waterways.
