Sumner Library closing for renovation
Sumner Library will close for a renovation project beginning Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, and is expected to reopen in fall 2024.
The project will include:
- Interior and exterior renovations,
- Historic preservation,
- Refreshed youth space, and
- Additional meeting rooms.
Temporary service location
Beginning in October and throughout the closure, limited services will be provided at a temporary location in the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC). Hours for the temporary space are:
- Monday – Noon to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday – Noon to 7 p.m.
Services available at the temporary location include:
- Access to public computers, printing, copying, and scanning,
- On-site technology assistance from library staff,
- Homework Help, and
- Tax Assistance program.
The temporary space at UROC is accessible by Metro Transit using the C Line or Route 7.
Holds pickup location
All library materials on hold with a Sumner Library pickup location will automatically change to Golden Valley Library. To select a different pickup location, patrons can adjust their online account settings, connect with Ask Us online, call 612-543-KNOW (5669), or visit any Hennepin County library.
The Sumner Library book return will also be closed during the project. Patrons can return library materials to any other Hennepin County library during this time. Nearby libraries include:
- Minneapolis Central, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
- North Regional, 1315 Lowry Ave. N., Minneapolis
- Golden Valley, 830 Winnetka Ave. N, Golden Valley
